CHICAGO -- Count point guard prospect Eric Maynor as an admirer of the Pistons franchise.

And while he has workouts and interviews scheduled with Golden State, Minnesota and Toronto, he said today during interviews at the NBA predraft combine that he will definitely fit in a trip to Detroit before June 25 -- the date of the draft.

“I saw (Pistons coach) Mike Curry (Wednesday) and he asked was I coming up there,” said Maynor, who is projected to go in the first round. “I know I’m going up there, but I don’t know the exact date, though.”

Maynor stands 6-feet-3 and during a four-year career at Virginia Commonwealth he was known for making big shots -- including the winner in the first round of the NCAA tournament against Duke his sophomore season.

The draft is loaded with point guards so if the Pistons want to go that route with the 15th pick of the first round, Maynor would appear to be a candidate.

And he broke down the situation in Detroit for me.

“Honestly, it’ll all boil down to what trades are going to happen,” Maynor said. “I think there’s going to be a lot of change in there.

“Mike Curry is a great guy, a great coach, but he just needs guys that are going to be committed to winning.”

Wow, GS, TOR and Minny all, all have picks before us wonder what he said about them. But he has said befor that it's all about landing in the "Right Situation".

I wonder how a back court of Maynor and Stuckey would work out, both can distribute, both can hit shots, one slashes to the cup, the other more of an offense facilitator. But with Bynum AND AA on the bench to back up both, could that make Rip expendable? Last time we won a ring Joe worked in the right fit of bigs, AFTER he assembled Rip and CBill. I wonder if he sees Stuckey and Maynor as a possible future back court. It would make Rip expendable, wonder who we could get for Rip. Rip and Amir for Bosh, works CBA wise. They'd get a guy that is locked in for 3 more years and is a proven winner. Calderon, Rip and Kapono world be a decent to solid grouping of shooters!

Maynor/Bynum
Stuckey/AA
Tay/AA
Bosh/Max
Brown/FA

I am surprised by how much talk there has been for us taking a PG with the #15. If there was an aspect of our team we wouldn't mess with I would think it would be our guards. Joe seems to have made a commitment to Stuckey. Rip is our most consistent player. And after last year you would expect AA and Bynum to be handed a larger role next year. This is especially surprising since we seem to be losing out 2 best bigs.

The part I really don't understand is all this talk about Stuckey being a SG. I just don't see it. Stuckey is really below average when it comes to playing off the ball or without the ball in his hands. He is good at taking it to the bucket and OK at spot up shooting. I really can't remember him moving without the ball to get an open shot very often. Maybe I'm just spoiled by having Billups for so many years, but that is the mold I think best suits Stuckey.

It will be really interesting to see what is up Joe's sleeve if we draft a PG with the #15. Stuckey isn't going anywhere, we seem to be in love with Bynum and I don't see the sense in drafting a 3rd string PG with the #15 so that would mean that Joe already has a good idea of a landing spot for Rip.

Maxiell said he has developed a trick to help him slow down and focus at the line. "It's all mental, it's always been mental," he said. "I just say 'Happy Gilmore' and try to go to my happy place. I think of my happy place, picture my girl and shoot."

I doubt Dumars would consider Rip expendable, not when he's several times better than all of the guards currently on our team.

Another way to look at things: the Pistons allegedly looking at point guard in this draft could mean that Joe Dumars, just like me, does not feel as confident in Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum as many of you do. That should be the sentiment after dismal seasons from the both of them.

Personally, if Maynor was the pick the Pistons made, I would love it. Netting a good point guard who is a clutch, active, charismatic floor general and playmaker is the key to getting this team back on track.

That would be a deadily backcourt if Toronto swung a deal for rip. Rip still has alot left in the tank id imagine his trade value should be the best. Yet with how dumb these GM's are there probably not even looking into getting him, or under rate him so much Joe D would never latch onto a proposal. Thats just what id assume.

Whoa! Slow down cowboy. lol Joe said he was interested in playing Stuckey and Bynum together in certain situations. He said nothing to my knowledge about exchanging Rip for Bynum in starting lineup with Stuckey as the SG. Thats just madness. Even AA would be a severe downgrade at the position. If anything I think it makes AA expendable as a filler in a trade that hopefully includes Tayshaun going somewhere for a bigger name guy that can contribute. While Tay showed promise this year, Rip has been to consistent to get rid of.
