Halloween falls on a Saturday, yet by 8:30 there were no trick or treaters anywhere. When I used to go, we would fill pillow cases of candy in our neighborhood, empty it at home, then get into the car and have our parents take us to the burbs. Even on school nights we wouldn't be finished until at least 10:30.

My town's times were 5:30 to 7:30. I know they have it earlier for "safety" reasons but what's scary about trick or treating when it's light out? And now the schools don't let kids wear costumes to school because "some kids can't afford a costume and it would make them feel left out."
Kids have been turned into wimps by overbearing adults nowadays, in my opinion.
Children are being sheltered and locked in their house by their parents.
More seriously, aside from some cities making curfew laws, maybe the H1N1 stuff is freaking parents out too.
I stopped giving out candy last year because for like 4 years straight, I'd have my light on and bought bags of candy and ended up getting 2-3 kids at most. I think it's my neighborhood because it has very few kids, but I just stopped doing it.

That's like the least "mommyish" comment you've made on p.com. And i agree with you, too.
You know how much I love my kids...so it's not a kid-hater sort of thing.
But there are so many parents now that go out of their way to make life too comfortable for their children and when they grow up and get out into the real world...these kids are screwed!
Maybe little Johnny/Joanna needs to learn what it feels like to not have every dang thing they want or ask for. It toughens them up, in my opinion.
Man, I could go on and on about this subject...but I will leave it at that.
Maybe kids dont' treat or treat anymore. We got 2 kids the whole night. I wish I would have been thinking because I would have dumped my whole bucket in both their bags.

Try living in LA. Unless your passing out BMW's they wont show up. Atleast where i live. Pretty Sad.
What are you guys talking about? Every five minutes there were kids knocking on the door. I ran out of candy at like 9 something and didn't stop getting trick or treaters until like 11:30.
