I like signing Scott Linehan, a proven OC, I'm really liking the staff so far Schwartz is putting together, hopefully now the GM can get in some players for them to work with

Hopefully, Schwartz has a good say as to what they draft. This isn't Millen anymore going against what the scouts say and picking a guy he thinks will pan out.

Linehan to coach Lions' offense
ESPN.com news services

Scott Linehan, the former St. Louis Rams coach who turned down the San Francisco 49ers' offer to become their offensive coordinator, has agreed to join the Lions in that position, the team announced Friday.

Terms of a deal were not disclosed.

Linehan declined the 49ers' offer Sunday, saying he wasn't ready to commit to his next coaching move.

Linehan, a respected former offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings, was fired four games into his third season as the Rams' coach last September.

New Lions coach Jim Schwartz hired veteran assistant Gunther Cunningham as defensive coordinator Wednesday.

I also love the idea of a former coach being our O-Coordinator. So far not bad, IMHO.

Stafford with the 1st pick makes me sad though.

I don't like that idea either but what if he turns out to be a stud? you never know. His game does translate to an NFL offense. I think Smith, Oher, Black, and the guy from Baylor are all even and we could sign 1 of them with the 20th pick or in the 2nd round.

Personally, I think we should build the rest of the team first so we don't have to rely on a young QB to save to the team. Plus I still want to see if Stanton can play even though he seems pretty fragile. Orlovski was'nt that bad either.

I agree. No to the QB. WE need a game changer on D or a LT.

But I here scouting is Schwartz's strong point. And I have been pretty satisfied with Mayhew at GM so far.

I like the Linehan signing as well... it's always good to have someone with head coaching experience on your staff. Even if he didn't fare very well...

I'm starting to lean towards Eugene Monroe as our #1 pick. I think that in the end, he's going to be the top rated LT in the draft. At 6-6 315, he's enormous...

http://www.draftcountdown.com/...ot/Eugene-Monroe.php

And here would be the other guys I would go after...

1A Eugene Monroe(LT)
1B James Lauranitis(MLB)
2A Alphonso Smith(CB,KR)
3A Andy Levitre(OG)
3B Derrick Williams(WR,KR)
4A Chip Vaughn(SS)

FA signings, Albert Haynesworth, Bart Scott, Dunta Robinson, and Oshiomogho Atogwe... dream signings more than likely.

DE DeWayne White(Might not be big enough to play DE in 3-4)
DT Albert Haynesworth
DT Cory Redding(Fast enough to play DE in 3-4)
DE Cliff Avril, pure passrusher to use in Hybrid D(See Terrell Suggs)
SB Bart Scott(can also play inside if we lineup occasionally in a 3-4)
MB James Lauranitis
WB Ernie Sims
CB Dunta Robinson
CB Alphonso Smith
FS Oshiomogho Atogwe, playmaker at FS creates TO's
SS Daniel Bullocks

I would like that defense alot.. if we played a hybrid 3-4, 4-3 defense we could really put alot of pressure on the QB. on running downs we can go with White and DeVries as the DE's, then when we go to a 3-4 on passing downs we can move Redding to DE and go with Alama-Francis or Fluellon as the other DE, and bring in Avril as an OLB to rush the passer.... whew my mind is a racing

I think if Detroit can trade down to pick #3, they should pick up some later round picks. They could draft Smith at #3 and then couple a late round pick with that #20 pick and move up to get him. He's not a consensus top 5, or 10 or even 15 guy roight now, he is a consensus top 20 guy though. SOmeone always slides, a little farther than people thought a guy would. So it's possible that he could infact slide. Aarron Curry is a consensus higher pick than Ray, so you just never know. Wait till after the combine. Plus don't forget there is a FA signing time between teh combine and the draft. It's still very early on to really peg what teh draft will, or even should look like. I'd prefer to go after Smith with teh top pick so that whoever is eventually brought in to play QB isn't getting creamed a la Carr in Houston a few years back. YOu either decide to protect your QB or it ends up as a game of smear the... well I think you get my point. SMith also is a dual threat OT, he can push through to second tier blocking so that teh RB is getting clean lanes to get through. That take pressure off the QB. Smith is truly something special, like Jake Long a year ago and Joe Thomas two years ago. Really can come in and start on day one and make a direct impact in a positive way.

I'll be really ****ed if the Lions draft a QB in any of teh rounds on day one. NExt year will be an f'n free for all on QBs. Besides, lets not kid ourselves. While QB is a need position this team needs to fill, a guy they draft this year will not get them in teh playoffs. We have enough holes in this team that they need to be addressed first. You can put a one or two year patch on teh QB spot, but positions like OT and most of the Lions defensive spots are higher priority. At least that's the way this fan sees it.

They should draft a LT with that pick. I don't really like Stafford, and next year there will be a lot of good QBs. With the 2nd pick, I would go for defense.

Hmmm how about this... trade the #1 pick to someone in the top 10 for a top 10 pick and another pick in the 3rd rd. We then could trade the 20th pick and our 3rd rd pick(maybe throw in another 5th rounder) for another pick in the top 10.

With those 2 top 10 picks we take the best LT available of out Eugene Monroe, Andre Smith, Michael Oher and Jason Smith. Then with our 2nd top 10 pick we take Rey Maualuga. So we get a franchise LT and MLB in this draft.

Then we have a 2nd rd pick and 2 3rd rd picks still to work with. Alphonso Smith, Andy Levitre, and Derrick Williams...

^If we could pull that off I'd be down with that cuz no number 1 pick could single-handedly save our team. And now just having better coaching will help some of our shortcomings. I'd prolly make the same picks you mentioned.

You essentially gave the exact same idea I did, like 3 posts and 4 days earlier... What's up with that?

I will say this, I want to see the LTs at teh combine before I'm on teh Andre Smith bandwagon 100%, I believe there are about 8 LTs that could go top 20, sooo... I'd like to see which one performs the best when all the factors are levied equally!

It really makes me angry to see that Tebow and Bradford are staying at their schools. I think they would really look good in a Lions jersey. Smiler

I want Bradford much more than Tebow. I wouldn't mind getting Tebow after the 1st round. That's why I would rather wait until next year to draft a QB. We need the best OT.
