June 2004... The extreme underdog Detroit Pistons to face none other then a team loaded with 4 future hall of famers, along with the best big man little man combo the game has seen. No one an i mean NO ONE! of these supposed EXPERTS. Picked the pistons to prevail. Well history tells us that those very Pistons smashed the powerhouse Lakers in 5 GAMES!

Fast Forward>>>>>>>>>>>>

April 2009... 5 long years later. The Pistons have fallen hard from grace. They hang by quite a slim thread. But you best believe it were still in this! The cards are stacked against us even more so then 5 years ago, we have to go against...

The best team in the league record wise.

The heir apparent LeBron James which we all know the nba would love Kobe an LeBron in the end.

No homecourt which really doesnt matter in my eyes.

Inexcusably flawed coaching...

Now with all that said im confident we can beat these fools. WHY? cuz were the DETROIT PISTONS this is what we do! As the wwe wrestler used to have for a promo, ANOTHER SHATTERED DREAMS PRODUCTION. Thats exactly the way i see it. Cleveland is a formidable foe theres no denying that. We match up though. We beat them in experience. We are deeper. an most importantly were the UNDERDOGS! the role we relish in.

The only thing that will hold this back is what we've been cursed with for years. We go in there an lay down for them. It is IMPERATIVE that we do not slip up. We come in there an make a statement from that start. Were the Stones, The slacking off ends here!!! How bad do these guys really want it? Or have they been feeding us bs all these years? It's put up or shut up time! Will the mighty stones resurrect or bury themselves that is the question?

Love the post. I wish I shared the same optimism you have, I actually did before the Bulls game. I love the Pistons and I'll be wearing my Piston jersey every playoff gameday all day long. But I just don't see this team being able to upset the Cavs. Yes, LBJ is dominant, but the whole Cavs team is just too good. Of course I believe in our 'Stons and I think they can pull it off, but I just don't see it happening. A game 1 win, or even a hard fought game 1 loss would change my mind, but at this point I'm already looking forward to next year. Actually, no, I'm looking forward to the Cavs series, but this offseason and next year seems more promising to me at this point. Especially after Detroit could not close out the Bulls. That was just inexcusable. But in any sense... LET'S GO PISTONS!!!

Like i said to everyone the last few days. The pistons showed the Cavs they can play with them in the Q last time we played the cavs. It's all about defense. But like i also been telling everyone... all's it takes is winning 1 game on the road and we go from being the 8th seed to the 1 seed. All the pistons need to do is hold there home court and take one on the road. Tayshaun has proved he can shut down Lebron. When you shut down Lebron it's anyones ball game. If the pistons can shoot 35%, turn the ball over 14 times, and Rasheed playing his first game back off the bench and only losing by 6 points...they can beat them now where they have the exsperence.

slam jam thank you mam

Lebron is gonna get his no matter what but I'm worried that Stuckey will let Mo Williams do anything he wants. And Sheed has to show up

That would be a beautiful picture. It IS nice to see some optimism although it's hard to muster up much optimism with this matchup.

You know what would be good? I mean nothing less than a series win would be SATISFYING, but it would be nice to see a long series. I think if we pushed the Cavs to a game 7 @ the Q and lost, there's no shame in that. I just don't wanna see cleveland lay a beating on us in 4 games. In my heart, i think Tay, Sheed, and Rip have way too much pride to be swept.

I don't like your painting DTP, but it's the likely picture that will be painted in a few weeks.

I honestly have a glimmer of hope that we can win somehow. I am not totally convinced that the Cavs are going to just roll the Pistons.

The only way I can see that is if the Pistons lose the first game in double overtime due to a couple bonehead mistakes down the stretch.

That would be demoralizing to no end and the Pistons would just roll over.

Afflalo is going to get a lot of minutes if Tay cannot get the job done.

Just when has Tay Tay ever shut down LeBron???If your hanging your hat on that, your sadly mistaken.

Yeah the Pistons have shown they can hang with Cleveland until late in the game...but then comes crunch time.Every possession is meaningful, special plays are drawn up after each time-out to combat Cleveland's smothering defense. The picture is being painted in my head now.

Stuckey dribbles out most of the shotclock while the rest of the team stands around doing nothing.

How about a clear-out on one side of the court for Prince so he can hold the ball for 20 seconds then get stripped from the double-team as he plods his way toward the hole.Hey, at least we'll get the usual shoulder shrug while he whines for a foul.

These are the go-to plays of our offensive guru Michael Curry. No matter how tough they play for most of the game, MC is still making the calls: the plays, who plays, who plays with/on whom. There is nothing to suggest that Curry will get it right after a seasons worth of late game incompetency.

So now he's gonna bring his secret LeBron weapon (Afflalo) out for the playoffs.Well maybe you could have played him a little more to get him ready. How many DNP's did he have this year?

MC is really going to be exposed in front of a national audience.Whether it's stale X's and O's or lack of commposure if the players give up when the going get's tough(refs/Cavs D),I can see it getting ugly.

What really sucks is that Chicago game or a couple of the other late-game collapses would have landed the Pistons on the other side of the bracket.Far more Curry friendly. Not Curry-proof but a much prettier picture.

I share the original poster's enthusiasm, but it would be much more realistic if we could upset the Cavs if we still had Ben.

This team plays with no heart. If they played hard and got to this level, then yes, a definite upset. But the current Pistons don't play like they WANT a championship anymore.

Pistons were perceived as the underdogs. But on objective observer looking at the talent on that squad top to bottom knows that even Larry Brown couldn't loose with that team. Hek, Doc Rivers could have won with that team too.
The Wallace tandem was amazing. Our bench consisted of starter-quality talent. Our defense was unmatched, and every player had a chip on their shoulders. They play hard. And hard nosed play is all I can ask for.

Our talent this season is nice. Worthy of note. But capable of winning multiple 7 game series... I question that. This is NOT the 2004 team. This is barely the 2002 team.

But I will enjoy watching, because I am enjoying the drama of the youngins growin up with someone who was willing to give each and every one of them a shot.
