you really think that our exec's in some interview after just allegedly signing ben gordon are gonna say "oh yea he agreed to come here because we told him and are now telling you that we're going to trade rip hamilton" haha that doesn't mean ish rip should still be concerned

Oh I think they like me, better yet I know, lights camera action when I walk through the door...

i dunno, i think getting tyson locks us into him and does not make us elite. I actually think we need to pursue Amare at this point to finish this off-season.

I think some of you are just a tad bit obsessed w/landing Chandler. I honestly don't see how he's more than a marginal upgrade over Kwame. Last season, Chandler averaged 8pts & 8rbs while Brown averaged 4pts & 5rbs. Not a terribly big difference. Oh, and did I forget to mention that Chandler averaged twice as many minutes per game as Kwame last year? And then there's the fact that NO tried to give him away to OKC earlier in the year but got rejected. If he's such a good, young center then why all the blue-light specials?

Finally, I honeslty believe Kwame will do as good if not better a job guarding Dwight Howard & Shaq. Kwame's a lot bigger than Tyson and will be better able to hold his own in the low post.

And he costs 1/3 as much.

Last year, Chandler was hurt for much of the season. Even when he did play, he was playing hurt. You can't just look at his stats last season and evaluate just on that. Now if you want to criticize him because of his injuries last season, that's one thing. But, don't evaluate him as a player based on last season's statistics.

The previous two seasons before last season when he started to get consistent starting minutes, he was averaging right around 10 ppg and 12 rpg. Now, Chris Paul helped him a lot obviously. But even if you disregard numbers, he has better length and better athleticism and agility than Kwame, which also allows him to run the court better (if he returns healthy). There's not a huge difference defensively either way but Tyson Chandler is a better player, especially for what the Pistons need if they are going to open up the offense and get in the open court more.

If you believe Ben Gordon left behind a starting spot for a playoff team for a bench role for a team rebuilding you would be foolish.
Rip is outta here for a center.

We need 1 starting guard with 3pt range period.

This is AMAZING news! I sure hope it's true! One of my thoughts on him coming here and thinking that Rip would certainly be traded was that he would never sign to come off the bench. I am extremely happy to hear that.

If this is true, did we sacrifice a chunk of our cap space for a bench player?

Amare does not want to and shouldn't play center.

How could we spend $55m on a bench player?! What does this mean for Bynum, who very well could be better than Stuckey? Our ONLY center is Kwame Brown. Come on.

OH MY GOSH! He actually wont complain like AI. Instant offense, clutch shooting, no more inconsistant offense.

i hope his attitude really is the opposite of iversons, which i honestly dont think it is just throwing it out there.

You can only hope that is the deal. Gorden coming off the bench with no problems. I'm just a little out of the loop but whats going on with AI if someone can fill me in on his role?

Kwame's going to be our starting Center?

Can we even afford Dice now, without going into the luxury tax?

Not good, IMO.
Yes we are overpaying a back up, both BG & CV. Rip is still very good offensively. We can offer Dice the mid level now that the cap space is used and I expect to have a major trade for a front court player that would put Brown on the bench.

I wouldn't like this very much at all. Don't like paying a back-up that can only play one position $11 million per.

That said, I'll take this article with a grain of salt. It's not like they'd come out and say that they signed BG so that Rip was expendable.

We can trade Kwame's expiring contract and Maxiell for Chandler because we're still going to be about $4mm under the cap (so we can take back additional salary in the amount of our cap space and we need not be within the 25% range).

I think I'd rather have Kwame start. I wouldn't mind getting rid of Maxiell's contract, but I'm not excited about the problem with Chandler's foot.

The Pistons are going to be running, and Chandler can't do it on a bad foot.

It would be nice if Maxiell's contract could help us get a backup center. If Maxiell stays, he'll end up playing the low post with Villanueva, or maybe McDyess, or whoever, and will be matched against much taller players. We need to acquire another big low post center, and get rid of the undersized Maxiell.

Can we convert another 2 guard into a true point guard ala Billups. I mean we are trying with Stuckey, but didn't Ben Gordon play point at Uconn. He could probably run an offense better than Rip, Tay, or Stuckey. It might be an option, you never know.

It's crazy they don't even want someone who can play in return.
That just shows how much they don't want to be in luxury tax.

Well we don't know what the salary cap is going to be yet, but it looks like the Pistons are willing to dump 40% of that cap on one position. Wow! I guess that's cool if you expect at least 40% of the scoring to come from that position. That leaves an avg. of 15% for each of the other positions. Geez Joe D. where you goin' with this?
