Houston knows they're in rebuild mode, so I think we could get him relatively cheap. I'm not saying we wouldn't have to give up anything significant at all, but I think the Rockets would take what they can get for him right now. As far as the benifit of getting T-Mac, sources say he's going to be in the best shape of his life... so I wouldn't doubt that he could play at an elite level this year. Of course, it's always the health issues, but if it doesn't work out, hey, a heft contract comes off the books.

Thoughts?

I'm not saying we should do it, I'd just like to hear your thoughts.

TMAC gets at least 20mill a year and we only have 5 mill in the cap. Plus we couldnt even trade BG or CV until December. Houston is looking for a center, as well as we are

3days ago I would have dealt Tay to HOU for him straight up, but no mas, we don't have the cap space....

I'm not a cap space guru, but is there any way we could get a trade worked out to where we COULD get him? Maybe trade Rip and Max or something along those lines? Again, I don't know how those numbers would work, so I'm just throwing it out there from a hypothetical standpoint.

The only way we could get TMAC is if we traded Tay and Rip and prob Max and prob someone else lol. Plus TMAC cannot go one season without getting a severe injury, nobody will want him because of his injuries. He is a GREAT player, but has little durablity

Yeah...

Tay, Rip, AND Max would be too much.

I'd do it if we had more front court depth, but unfortunately we don't.

I should have known it would be a rookie to post a McGrady thread on here. I owe myself $100 for being right. I think I'll take myself out for a nice dinner and a movie.

Rip and Max and the cap space left should get it done for T-Mac and a couple of first rounders.

Worth a gamble, but only as a last ditch shot.

TMac is a glorified version of his cousin but more injury prone. I don't want him

So, T-mac is apparently motivated after having surgery (again), and the haters are doubting him (again), and now he has something to prove(again)....oh, but this time he really, REALLY, means it...Roll Eyes

T-Mac is done, accept it. This nonsense about him being in great shape is a cheap media ploy to keep fan moral high. His only value to us would be his expiring contract, which we don't need!

Where does this obsession with having more cap space at the cost of losing Rip and/or Tay come from anyway? Free agents are not going to trip all over themselves to come play with the Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva led Pistons.

T-Mac has an expiring contract his year. Houston is going to be more inclined to keep him so that they can utilize that cap space next summer. B/C this would use up all of our cap space, our front line would remain as is for the rest of the season...and that's a bit scary.

Chandler ($12,250,000) and Posey ($6,031,800) will make $18,281,800 vs. $15,625,000 for Hamilton ($ 11,625,000) and Brown ($4,000,000). This uses up an additional $2,656,800 of cap space out of $3-$4 million remaining.

And there is no MLE for the Pistons, and no McDyess. Who will back up the often injured Chandler? Would that be Maxiell and Plaisted?

If you could send Maxiell instead of Kwame Brown, it would make more sense, but there still wouldn't be enough to sign McDyess.

And, the loss of Hamilton would hurt the Pistons more having Brown vs. Chandler as a starter.

No Way!!!

Three team trade with New York, Houston & Detroit. Rip & Curry to Houston, Future 1st round picks from both Houston & New York, T-Mac to New York. We'd Have about 16 million of cap space this year. Then we could sign Millsap to a 5 year 35 million deal. It would be like trading Rip for 2 1st round picks, Millsap & save 5 million is cap space.

This team is trying to get younger, not older. Why in the world would you take on a $20 million contract for a chucker who is on the downside of his career and injury prone? McGrady is the last (well, except for A.I.) person I want to see come here, contract year or no.

The only reason to get him is for his expiring contract, and we don't have the contracts we'd want to trade for him.
