CHARLIE'S STATS
SHEED

same body stats, both can hit the three, both are good on the post (well, sheed prefers not to and just hit 3's cause it's easier and requires less energy), can flatout SHOOT. can defend pretty good.

charlie's career high on blocks is 4. sheed's 6. charlie's 24 he's got lots of time to work on that.

and rebounds? well charlie and sheed both have 18 as their career high on total rebounds and 15 last season.

there's more similarities to talk about.

not bad JOE D.

not alot of teams have a big man who can do these things.

one thing i'm ecstatic about was points per 48 mins. charlie was 10th in the league with 29 last season.

I love this signing. Especially since it's only $7 million per.

I should've known, walked all the way home
To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone.

Haha which is why he is the new Sheed.

Sheed was tough with Ben on his side, but every season he went more and more downhill.

Now granted I haven't seen that much of Charlie V but when did he become a good defender? The times I have watched him play he was terrible. Also I don't remember seeing him down on the block but I guess that would be consistent with being the new Sheed. For the record I like the signing. I'm not so hot on Ben Gordon but I like Charlie.

same here. bg wasn't the guy i was looking for. but for some reason, the bulls fan seem to think he was the best player last season and now that he's gone, some people think the bulls are gonna be mediocre next season.

as a bulls fan myself, i think d rose was the best player on their roster last season.

to clear it up, i am a piston fan first!

On offense he's roughly sheed, but sheed was a great defender. Yes, I said great. He could guard big centers down low, guard perimeter oriented bigs and was excellent on the help side.

As much as I wanted to get rid of sheed the last several years, whenever I'd think of who could replace him I realized how unique his skill set on defense is.

Part of the appeal with Villanueva was definitely his scoring and the range on his shot especially. I think Dumars really likes range, particularly three point range, from one of his big men, a la Sheed, Mehmet. That helps spread the floor. Plus, with the current Pistons team before the signings, the main core was weak at three point shooting. Both Rip and Tay are solid three point shooters but not prolific ones. Stuckey hasn't proven to have any consistent long range ability. Villanueva, along with Gordon, helps balance out the rotation by adding long distance shooters. When Billups was still on the team, the Pistons got away with Rip and Tay not being prolific three point shooters (as the wings on most teams are) because they had a great three point shooter at PG and a PF that had the range and wasn't shy about shooting it. Very good mix and balance when it came to three point shooting. Villanueva and Gordon help that dynamic.

Villanueva does share other similarities with Rasheed. Obvious talent, similar height and even build, not muscular but appears to have a decent amount of strength, both athletic. And obviously the three point shot as mentioned. Now if Charlie can only improve his defense to be at least consistently above average, then I'd be ecstatic. We'll have to wait and see.

Also, Villanueva is a better rebounder than his numbers indicate. He's only averaged slightly above 6 rpg in his career. But, he's mainly been a 25-29 mpg guy so far in his career. He looks to be getting pretty consistent starter minutes on the Pistons (around 35 mpg), and his per 36 minute rebounding is right around 8.5 rpg. Not spectacular, not elite, but I'll take it from the starting PF.

Hes the same player as Sheed.......

But 11 years hunger! haha.

Its funny, all year im thinking about who we should get, I never heard his name until last week. I was reading some stuff about the signing yesterday, and I see that hes onlly 24. I was shocked, it made the move even better.

I always knew he could play, it just seemed hes been around for 5-6 years.

Charlie is nothing, NOTHING like Sheed.
Sheed won us a 'ship. Charlie will never do that.
Sheed could play D, even without Ben. Charlie can't.
Sheed had the skills to be one of the best post players. Charlie doesn't have jack****.

Sheed played a role in winning the ship, just as Charlie can do. Don't act like he was the only reason he won. He was a piece to the puzzle.

he was a small piece of the puzzle we could have easily won that championship with a healthy mcdyess starting at the 4 spot and keep in mind sheed had foot problems in the championship so he wasnt 100%

I accept that he was a piece to the puzzle, but how 'bout the difference in defensive emphasis? In post skills? Charlie V is vastly inferior in both aspects.

VEnezuela? WTF is that about? I think the parallel beig dran between the two is interesting. Size, yup. Range, yup. Defense...not so much. Do many in the league have a similarly vocal passion about the game and about wanting to win? Not really. SO comparing the two on that point is a tad off. But I could see him being better at Defense in the future. He only had Skiles for one season. He hasn't had many if any defensive minded coaches. If it's true about AJ being teh new coach, he got Dampier to play D and no one thought that was possible. He got Dirk to play D for like 2 seasons, no one thought that was possible. Gordon isn't much of a defender, and I think With AJ's help he could be.

I still think if Hunter retires or is willing to be a player coach, Joe needs to make room for him, because what he brings to the team from a mental stand point is amazing and he would be able to guide and help teach the young ones on the team at the guard positions especially!

I think both of our new guys CV especially can be tought to play better D, especially help and weak side D, look at how Rip progressed in the time he's been here. Even CBill wasn't a stud defender untill LB got ahold of him, and he got more credit for being good at D after LB left!
