if he's the best center then i say yes, i think kwame will be our starting center though, wilcox can make a case also, theres gonna be a lot of fighting for minutes down low

long term, i'd rather see wilcox. if he can do his usual thing on offense and give a little more effort on defense, i think he'd become one of the better centers in the league

but as for ben, i think a lot of people are selling him extremely short...

Ben is no where near what he once was...and he'll never be at that level again. Even so, he will still be our best option at center, especially for a team was glaring defensive holes everywhere and no real rebounding.

We should deffinatleey do this to show Ben we appreciate him. After feeling welcome in Detroit, he will accept his minor role better than he would if he felt unapreciated.

I vote yes. It's only one game, and just because he starts, it doesn't mean he has to get a ton of minutes.

I wouldn't complain. I think Ben could show us something but I think he has checked out for the most part. He calls himself old Ben, he almost retired, he has no interest in starting or any expectations of playing time, no interest in getting his old number back. I think he mostly just hoping on for the ride and officially retire a Piston. I think expecting more then an "Elden Campbell" role is expecting too much.

Maxiell said he has developed a trick to help him slow down and focus at the line. "It's all mental, it's always been mental," he said. "I just say 'Happy Gilmore' and try to go to my happy place. I think of my happy place, picture my girl and shoot."

Joe D's master plan...Let Ben leave, join division rivals and gather scouting reports on all them. Ben has multiple DPOY awards, who better to spy on Cleveland for 2 years and learn how to stop Lebron. Joe and Ben knew this was the only way, finally a plan crafted in 2007 is coming to fruition.

What everyone seems to forget is Ben Wallace was the starting center for the highest winning team in the league last season before he broke his leg.

He also lead the entire NBA in +/- stat per 48 minutes.

He is a valuable veteran to any team that has major changes and further more, adds defense to this offensive oriented team.

I like Kwame Brown as much as the next guy but our starting center didn't even average half of a block per game last season. Lastly, as we are trying to build a playoff team, wouldn't you be more confident having our starter be somebody that has 130 games of playoff experience (which include 5 conference finals, 2 NBA finals and a championship) instead of a player who has sniffed the first round 4 times for 18 total games?

Let's not write off Ben Wallace just yet, especially knowing he is a guy that plays quite well with a huge chip on his shoulder.

He was the starting power forward. I don't seem to remember him playing too many minutes at center. His athleticism has really deteriorated. The good thing about him is that he has a very high basketball IQ and that's something that you can't take away from him. He also played very well when he was well-rested.

Expect too much from him and he will look like a scrub, though.

That stat means he's still biggity ben wallace.

Now on kwame yes i he does need to get his blocks on, yet as long as he uses that massive body to keep guys away from the basket, we can live with out him blocking shots, actually he's the perfect defender, for guys like ben cause they can come from the weak side an eat those shots. Hopefully charlie can learn that art, an theres no reason wilcox shouldn't block a lot of shots, hes a freakish athlete

No, it means he started games with 4 other very potent offensive players including LeBron James.

You can't always just do things out of respect for what a guy once was, this is serious and we need to win games, if Ben loved Detroit so much he wouldn't have left, so why show him too much loyalty, he isn't 27 yrs old any more, now that he has lost his athletics with age he is basically useless cause he has no jump shot.
