DETROIT (AP)—The Detroit Pistons don’t plan to wait long to name a replacement for fired coach Michael Curry.

Joe Dumars, the Pistons’ president for basketball operations, doesn’t have a “complete list” of candidates but wants to act in less than a week, before next Tuesday’s opening practice for the NBA developmental league.

“My goal is to have a head coach in place by the time we go out to Las Vegas,” Dumars said in a video posted on the team’s Web site. The NBA Summer League runs July 10-19.

The Pistons are in a good position to improve their lineup for the coming season with about $20 million under the salary cap to work with, to say nothing about four of the first 44 picks in the NBA draft.

“We’re definitely in the mode of reshaping our roster,” Dumars said last week. “We need to add about three or four talented players by drafting them, signing them or trading for them.”

Dumars announced Curry’s dismissal Tuesday. The first-year coach led the Pistons to a 39-43 regular-season record and a four-straight-game loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the opening round of the NBA playoffs.

Avery Johnson has the same flaws as carlise did. He trys to control everything, every play. Now that I think about it, that could help Stuckey. But anyway, I'd be concerned because of the mutiny that went on in Dallas.

I was actually pulling for Collins, I figured two years and then Bill would step up from the bench (still think that's gonna happen)....

Dallas players responded really well to him. They went from not playing any defense to being one of the top defensive teams. He got them to the finals. Their finals lost was crushing and controversial. No coach would have recovered from that. Their team hasn't been the same since despite the coaching change. The finals lost got in the players heads. You really can't hold that against Avery IMO.

AJ is the best choice out there. It's a no-brainer. The coach killers are gone(Sheed & AI)and the Divas (Rip & Prince) may soon follow. The team will be young with much more energy and ready to follow a headcoach with Championship rings.I'm sure AJ learned some things with his time off about handling players a little better.Stuckey & Bynum will benefit the most from Johnson's knowledge and style.
