Options for a backup Center without a trade off the top of my head...

Zaza Pachulia?... how much would he cost?

Glan Davis?... Might as well throw him an offer at least to keep Boston busy spending money on their current players not our ex players. Threw his name in here to hopefully get an idea of what he is demanding on the market.

Jamaal Magloire... 31 years old and should be fairly cheap. Can he contribute coming off an injury? Worth a contract?

Drew Gooden/Shelden Williams/Chris Wilcox... can these guys play center?

Theo Ratliff return... Old as hell

Jarron Collins/ Rasho Nesterovic... really reaching here! man our options are pretty lame about now.

Any thoughts?

I think Drew Gooden would be the best FA signing for center the pistons could make. He can shoot the mid range, post up, defend, block, and rebound. I think he is 6/10" but he is still capable of guarding most centers except Shaq. IDK how much $ he would cost though

We could always put our line up like this:
PG- Kwame Brown
SG- Jason Maxiell
SF- Ben Gordon
PF- Rodney Stuckey
C- Will Bynum

I DID THIS IN NBA 2K9 AND I GOT A TRIPLE DOUBLE WITH KWAME BROWN (INCLUDING 29 TURNOVERS)

Joe may just think about signing one of the cheaper guys to a 1 year deal such as Frye and maybe just try to land a more talented center at the deadline or next offseason. This isn't a one year rebuilding plan. So he could be content with a mediocre center til next year

Maybe get Zaza and then bring back Samb for extra cheap- just as insurance.

Or look to move Afflalo/Sharpe to the Raps for POB/2nd rounder?

How about Josh Heytvelt to backup Kwame?

Zaza Pachulia n Channing Frye........i'll be happy if either of these two is going to join us.

Pay Frye 6mil a year, then we can end up having -3mil a year in cap space. Not too bad compared to other teams.

If Not, Heytvelt can be our third choice.

Where did we get all this cap space? Last I heard, they would have $3-$4 million after the Gordon/Villanueva signings.

Heytvelt will play for the Wizzards' Lav Vegas Summer League team. Since the Wizzards didn't have a pick, he probably has a good shot at sticking.

But if we offer Frye a 6 mil a year contract, we'll only be 3 mil over the cap space, rite?

Teams are trying hard not to go past the cap space to avoid luxury tax, but if only 3mil over, it wont cost that much.......

So sign Frye/Pachulia/Heytvelt

A team cannot go over the cap to sign free agents. They can only go over to sign their own players; draft picks whose rights they've retained, and players for whom they have "Bird" rights.

We HAVE to make a trade for a center... we need a starting center, not a backup. Villanueva is nice and all, but we need a Chandler/Camby type on this team. Someone that is going to block some shots and play solid defense. Hamilton is as good as gone... it's just a matter of where. We aren't paying Gordon 10 million a year to come off the bench. It's not going to happen.

You may be wrong about Gordon not coming off the bench. He says he's looking forward with playing with RIP.

I expect they'll sign a free agent to backup Kwame, possibly Dyess, or better yet a sign and trade, with someone taking Maxiell's contract.

Also...

Who in their right mind would pay Frye 6 million a season?

Iverson said he'd be willing to do anything to win...

These guys always say the right things in the beginning. Hamilton is going to be traded. Neither Hamilton or Gordon will play to their full potential with them on the same team. If Hamilton could start at SF... then it could work, but he can't.
