AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP)—Detroit Shock forward Plenette Pierson is expected to be out for the rest of the season after shoulder surgery.

The team said Wednesday that the 6-foot-2 forward had successful surgery to repair right shoulder instability. Pierson was injured in the first quarter of the WNBA opener against the Los Angeles Sparks on June 6.

The 27-year-old Texas Tech graduate won the WNBA’s Sixth Woman of the Year award in 2007. She has averaged 8.7 points and 1.2 assists in 196 career games since 2003.

Pierson was a member of the 2006 and 2008 Shock championship teams and previously played for the Phoenix Mercury.

D'oh! This is a big blow for the Shock :-( . Since Pierson's done for the season, who should we sign?

This is true, but other great players like Kara and Katie have to step up--if they can, then the Shock can keep winning games.
