Now det let them two players slide to sparks, and because of it they will lose the championship game when they meet them in the playoffs end of story. (lambeer screwed up big time)
Los Angeles -- Tina Thompson had 18 points, Betty Lennox added 17 points and 10 rebounds and the Los Angeles Sparks easily defeated the defending WNBA champion Detroit Shock 78-58 on Saturday
Lisa Leslie had an off-day for the Sparks, scoring just six points, but Los Angeles had plenty of star power to back up the four time-Olympic Gold medalist -- even with Candace Parker sidelined.
Lennox, the 2004 Finals MVP, and Thompson gave the Sparks (1-0) the surge on offense that they needed. The two were catalysts in two separate 11-plus point runs to give Los Angeles a 22-point lead going into halftime

Let them slide to the Sparks? They were free agents. They had their choice where to go. With Tina Thompson especially, she wanted to go to LA. She's close with Lisa Leslie. She's from there. That's where she wanted to go. You can't blame Laimbeer unlesss they wanted to come to Detroit and Laimbeer told them no.
Plus, be real. No Ford, no Braxton, Pierson gets hurt, and the game in LA. What did you expect? A Shock blowout win?
What Quality free agents did det get this off season that can score 17-20pts ? Nada zero !!!!! This was the best year to pick a free agents up and improve the team. And lambeer laid a big fat egg on this one.It will cost them the championship ,just watch and see.

Criticize all you want. I just think it's pretty weak to criticize Laimbeer specifically for not getting Tina Thompson and Betty Lennox. They'd have to want to come to Detroit in order for Bill to have messed up on not getting them to come to Detroit. It's been pretty clear that Tina Thompson wanted to go home to Los Angeles. There was probably a 0% chance of her ever coming to Detroit. And Betty Lennox got to be a starting 2-guard for LA. Here she would have had to play point or come off the bench. It's easy to criticize moves or lack of moves after the fact. Unless Betty Lennox and Tina Thompson both got in contact with Bill Laimbeer and told him they wanted to join the Shock and he said no, it's weak to criticize him specifically for not getting those two players.

You can't judge a team or a game, especially the first game of the season as to who'll win a championship. Of course they'll be good, they have a ton of talent but that doesn't mean they'll win anything. Detroit was pretty much set up to lose that game which is why I was expecting them to lose.
And Detroit went after Thompson, she simply just did not want to come here and chose LA. And Lennox is a risk when it comes to both on and off the court chemistry and would have been expensive. There's a reason why they did not end up in Detroit.

I guess i am crying about spilt milk.
I just hope the shock do not lose much more games, because they may lose home court advantage.
In order to improve the team they can trade Alexis Hornbuckle or Shavonte Zellous for a scorer hopefully by the deadline at the latest. .
Shavonte Zellous Detroit Shock Alexis Hornbuckle Detroit Shock Position: G Height: 5-11 Weight: 155 College: Tennessee Player file | Team stats

The Shock shouldn't be looking to trade it's young talent just to try to stay afloat this season. That's too narrow minded. All they have to do is weather the storm until they get healthy again. This is a championship team as constructed, but they are hampered by injury and Braxton's suspension. Home court advantage isn't as important to a veteran team that just won the title 2 out of the last three years. Please be patient. Now if Pleinette is out for the season then you should worry, but if she's back within a month the Shock will close out the season great.

Isn't it amazing the WNBA chose to play the first game of the season that was on National TV, with the defending champs on the road? Especially when they played their very next game against the same team! I mean why wouldn't the WNBA want to the nation see the Shock get their rings and raise their banner? That seems very fishy to me!
