I can't believe this DTP, i will have to eat crow! you called it.
Haynie averaged 2.8 points and 2.5 assists last season for the Atlanta Dream. She played for the Sacramento Monarchs for three years before that, and has averaged 3.5 points and 2.0 assists in her career. The Mason, Mich. native played four seasons at Michigan State University. She averaged 21.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 6.1 steals her senior year

Hey Everyone - brand new Shock fan on board! I'm a Haynie-ac & will be rooting for the Shock this season! Well, except for when they play the Lynx that is, ^..^ ~
I think this is an excellent choice in the POINT GUARD department (which we've needed for a while and I believe this is an upgrade from EP), defense department, looks department (I mean come on, Haynie's cute, we can at least all agree on that), and if the Haynie-acs are still loyal to their girl then we can expect our team's attendance to rise.
I hope she'll play like she did in her MSU glory days, 'cause if she does she'll fit in with the shock ladies in a heartbeat. We have shooters and scorers, I'm counting on Haynie to give 'em the ball, and be the tough scrappy player she naturally is.
OMG! YAY! its been a long time coming.

are you kidding? '03 Powell then maybe not...but modern Powell, Haynie definitely has the edge. We were keeping Powell around for one reason and it wasn't to win games.

Agreed. This is such a huge upgrade that it's not even close! How could you not be sure DTP? Elaine is horrible.

The WNBA lacks true depth at the point guard position throughout the league, there's just not too many out there. Detroit was lucky to have Elaine Powell....much rather have her than get stuck with stiffs like LA did last season.
Powell wasn't a great offensive contributor but she got it done. She handled the ball well, didn't turn it over and Laimbeer trusted her running the offense. She hit shots and made hustle plays when we needed her and she was a great defender. Is she a great player? No. But I'm not so certain that Haynie is that much of an upgrade just yet.
Haynie isn't very fast laterally and because of it isn't a great defender. Powell is a better defender simply because she's stronger, has quicker hands, and lateral foot speed is a bit quicker. Only thing Haynie is a clear upgrade over Powell is on the offense end, which Haynie ain't all that great yet. Yeah she can hit shots but she's a 33% career outside shooter and only 34% career shooter from the field. Those aren't numbers of a great shooter...
And your somewhat right, I'm sure that other reason did have somewhat of an impact on why she was brought back. But don't let that take away from the fact that she's a very solid veteran point guard that was a very decent contributor here during her time here. Without her, and some of the plays she made last season this team probably wouldn't have gotten as far as they did. She made some huge plays down the stretch of games in the post season, definitely in that NY series.
Last time I checked, Kristin was still MSU's all time steal leader - her defense may surprise. I can't think of any better motivation, than being back home....
Haynie is light years better that EP could ever hope to have been. For the first time in a long time she made timely shots last playoffs but she's not a shot maker or a layup maker. And her defense ain't that great either. Haynie makes this team easily and hopefully will get a lot of time with the starters to put our guards back in scoring mode more.
